The Pitch!

My target audience is in the age range of 15 to 19 years, it will be mostly aimed towards a female gender, but there will be aspects involved which will attract males.
My audience tend to watch drama films every 2 weeks and their favourite sub genre is romance and tragedy.

The conventions of a drama film tend be be quite serious and plot driven, they will normally portray realistic characters and stories, they also tend to involve intense character development.

Product idea for the trailer, kayla and i have the idea of where there is a girl (dani) who is in a relationship with a boy (jake), but then she meets someone new (olly), as they get to know each other they start to fall for each other, so she leaves jake to be with olly.
jake then gets angry and jealous and decides to kill olly by hiting him with a car, dani then becomes a wreck and is struggling to cope, so jake confesses what he did, she then gets angry at him and kills him by either stabbing him or shooting him.

For the risk assessment, when driving in the car, need to make sure seat belts are worn and driving is careful and slow. We're also going have a member of staff on sit to supervise while filming the car scenes. There will also be a first aid kit in the car just in case anything does happen.
We're going to use a plastic/rubber one so no-one will actually get stabbed or shot.
When out on the back roads make sure its light so people can see everything thats around. make sure riving slowly, people filming stay off the road.

In feel kayla and i's product will be successful because we are sticking to the conventions of a drama film, we are using everyday situations, but have made it more dramatic and twisted it because we have out murder into it. We are having intense character growth of dani, this is a characteristic of a drama film. She is the main character so we are having her as the character who goes through the most development.

The Pitch!

Conventions:
The conventions of a drama film are that they are serious and plot driven. They tend to portray realistic characters, settings and stories. They is normally intense character developments. The films don't focus on special effects or comedy, Drama is the largest film genre which has many sub genres.

The conventions for a typical drama film poster are that there tends to be 1 or 2 of the main characters on it, normally the main character in the foreground and the other in the background.
The colours tend to be quite bright and neutral colours.

magazine

from my target audience results, i found out that they wanted the magazine colours to be quite bold reds and yellows, so for my samples i tried mixing a few together.
i feel the top one and the middle one will be the ones that are the boldest and the ones that will be the most eye catching.

film poster

for my film poster my target audience said they wanted dark colours like greys,  again i mixed a few colours together.
i think the second and the last one's are the best so i will most likely use them.

Layout plan for magazine

for my magazine i will have a big bold masthead at the top of the page, this will be the first thing the audience see's so it needs to be eye catching.
i will have a big image in the centre of the page, this will be in the optical area so its thing that is viewed the most, i will have the 3 main characters, but have the girl in the middle and the boys either side of her.
at the bottom of the page i will have a cover line which will match the image, this will be the main story in the magazine, this also needs to be bold and eye catching for the audience.

layout plan for film poster

for my film poster im having the film title at the top of the page, it needs to be big and bold to catch the audiences attention as its the first thing they see.
im having the main image in the centre of the page, this is what the audience will look at the most, in the image im having the girl and one of the boys, then for in the background of the poster its going to have part of the setting and then the other boy will be there too.
at the bottom of the page im going to have the film slogan, its going to be small but clear. its smaller than the title because its not the most important thing on the page.

focus group!

Which of these posters do you prefer and why?
Would you go see the film from the poster?
What attracts you to it?
Whats the best feature on it?
Whats the worst thing about it?
How would you change it to make it better?
I asked 8 people and the majority of them preferred poster number 2, they said they preferred it because the red in the second poster stands out alot more than in the first poster. they said that the red was an important part because its called red riding hood so it needed to be standing out.
everybody said that they would go see the film from seeing the poster, they said this is because it looks quite scary and that its a modern take on the old fairytale.
People said that the best feature was the editing and the composition of the poster. They said that it makes the girl look vunerable and that its quite scary looking.
The worst part about the poster is that there is no actor names, so people dont know whos going to be in the film, most of the people i asked would prefer to see a film which has actors that they know of.
The way for it to be improved is by having the actors names on the poster and having another character on it too.

Which of these magazine covers do you prefer and why?
Would you read the magazine from seeing the front cover?
What attracts you to it?
Whats the best feature?
Whats the worst feature?
What would you change to make it better?
I asked the same 8 people i asked for the poster. The most of them said that they prefer magazine cover number 2, they said they liked it more because there is 3 people on the cover, rather than just the one which is on the other.
Most of the people said that they wouldnt read the magazine from seeing the front cover, they said this because it looks bland and boring, the colours arent very bold and there isnt much information on it.
The only thing that attracted people to the magazine is that it has justin timberlake on the front cover, he is a well known singer and he has just started to act properly.
The worst part of the magazine is that it has a plain white background and there isnt much colour on it.
To make the magazine better people said to have more colour and to have more writing on the page.

Film poster for Red Riding Hood.

layout
The white line is the z route of the eye, this is the way that people look at posters/magazines, along this line on this poster shows some text at the top and bottom of it. It tells the audience that the film is from the director of twilight. This will give the audience something to relate the film to as if they have seen twilight they could have a rough idea of what the film will be like. At the top it also gives the actors names who are in the film, if they audience knows any of them then they are more likely to go see the film and since its a top the of the page, it'll be one of the first things the audience sees. As line goes diagonally it goes through the main character, Valerie, this means that the audience will know that this is the main character, not only because she is the only character on the poster but because the middle of the z route is on her.
At the bottom of the page, the z line then runs through the film slogan, this tells the audience a little bit about the film. This is also the last thing the audience sees so the plot of the film will be fresh in their mind.

The principle of thirds, which are the yellow lines, divide the poster into the main 9 areas. In the top 3 areas there isnt much information, it just says the main actors that are in the film. But in the middle of the top 3 it has the face of the main character.
The outsides of the middle 3 boxes, dont have much information in them either, its just part of the background image that is shown, but the centre box shows the rest of the main character. Because its the centre of all the thirds it tells the audience that the film is going to be based around this character. In the bottom thirds is where most if the information is, in the centre box it has the name of the film in a big bold font and colour. this immediately stands out to the audience, so they will know that its the film title. Also in that box it has the release date of the film, this tells the audience when they can go see it .
The slogan of the film is spread out over all 3 of the bottom thirds, this makes the audience aware about the plot of the film, and because its spread over 3 boxes, it shows that its important information.

The optical areas, the red circles, are the areas where most people look at. These areas on this poster are placed very closely to the main character and the film title, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster. It tells the audience that its the main character and that the film is based around her.

images
The images used on this poster shows the audince who the main character of the film is, it shows valerie running through the woods. The image for the background is thwe woods. its set in winter so now of the trees have leaves and the ground is white. The fact that its winter makes the trees look sharp and cold. The trees arent only in the background they are also in the foreground, some of the branches are overlapped with the main image of valerie runnig, this makes the audience believe that she could be trapped in the woods, thinking that she has no-where else to go.
The main image is of valerie, she is in the famous red cloak, which will tell the audience that the film has some of the stories features in it.
Since she is running the audience will know that she is trying to get away/ hide from something, this is backed up by the look of panic on her face.

font
The font used on this poster is very plain and simple, appart from the film name. All the text at the top and bottom of the page is very easy to read and is quite basic, this is because if you are only looking at the poster quickly then you need to be able to understand what it says straight away.
The font size at the top of the page is small compared to the film name, but the font size at the bottom of the page is even smaller, this tells the audience what the most important text is.
The font of the masthead of the film name 'red riding hood' is in a different font to the rest of the poster, this is because its the most important part of text, so it needs to stand out to the audience, so the font is bolder and bigger. The style of font makes it look as if it been written is blood, this tells the audience that there is going to be death involved in the film.

colour
The colour used in the poster are all dark colours, its all black, greys and white, the only bit of bright colour is the cloak which is worn by the girl. Having it all dark around the outside makes the audience want to look towards the middle of the poster where the red is, this is where the main character is.
The colour of the text is white and red, the white text doesnt stand out very much, this tells the audience that its not most important part of the poster. The red text stands out more, the title is written in red, because its in red it looks as if its written in blood.

magazine cover

layout
The blue line is the z route of the eye, this is the way that people look at posters/magazines, along this line on this magazine shows has the masthead alone the top and the actors name at the bottom of it. It tells the audience that the magazine name is 'da man' and that the actors name is 'shiloh fernandez'. At the top it also gives the date of release and issue number of the magazine, this is really small as its not very important for the audience so they dont pay much attention to it. As line goes diagonally it goes through the image of the actor, this means that the audience will know that this is the actor named at the bottom, the image is also placed in the centre of the z route so its what the audience will see the most.
At the bottom of the page, the z line then runs through the actors name, this tells the audience that there is going to be a big in the magazine about him, and because its at the bottom of the route, then its fresh in the audiences mind.

The principle of thirds, which are the red lines, divide the magazine into the main 9 areas. In the top 3 areas there is the masthead of the magazine, being in the top 3 boxes tells the audience that this must title of the magazine as its the first thing they see.
The outsides of the middle 3 boxes, have some information about whats going to be featured in the magazine, because its at the side and out of the z route the audience knows its not the most important part of the magazine. The centre box shows the actor, because its the centre of all the thirds it tells the audience that the magazine is going to have a main article about them, also becuase its right in the centre its what the audience looks at the most. In the bottom thirds is where more information about whats in the magazine is. In the left box and the centre box it has the name of the actor in a big bold font and colour. This immediately stands out to the audience, so they will know that its actors name and its the person on the magazine. In the right box it has more information about whats in the magazine.

The optical areas, the yellow circles, are the areas where most people look at. These areas on this magazine are placed very closely to the image and the magazine title, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster.

images
The image used on this poster shows the audience who the main magazine article is about.
Because there is only one image then the audience will automatically look at it and will focus on the most. He's wearing just a plain top, this means the audience could relate to him because he is wearing normal clothing.

font
The font used on this magazine is very plain and simple. All the text is very easy to read and is quite basic, this is because if you are only looking at the magazine quickly then you need to be able to understand what it says straight away. Most people tend to look at the text that is big and bold, so the masthead and the actors name is larger than the rest of the text on the page.
There is a variation in font, just to make it more interesting for the audience to read, but its still all plain and easy to read.

colour
The colour used on the magazine are quite plain colours, only the yellow makes the magazine bright, the rest of the colours are white and greys. Being quite simple colours, and not very bright  makes it more attractive to an older audience, also because the person in the image is wearing plain colours means he doesnt stand too much, this tells the audience that he's important but because the masthead and the actors name is is bright bold colours, then there are the most important parts of the magazine. In the masthead its in yellow and white, because there arent any spaces between the two words 'Da man' having the two colours makes it easy for the audience to understand that its two different words.

Film poster for water for elephants
layout
The white line is the z route of the eye, along this line on this poster shows some text at the top, but most of it is at bottom of it. At the top it gives the actors names who are in the film, if they audience knows any of them then they are more likely to go see the film and since its a top the of the page, it'll be one of the first things the audience sees. The outsides of the middle 3 boxes, dont have much information in them either, its just part of the background image that is shown in the left, but in the right it shows another character, this tells the audience that he's important but not as important as the others because he's smaller and to one side. The centre box shows the rest of the main characters. Because its the centre of all the thirds it tells the audience that the film is going to be based around these characters. In the bottom thirds is where most if the information is, in the centre box it has the name of the film in a big bold font and colour. This immediately stands out to the audience, so they will know that its the film title. Also in that box it says coming soon, this tells the audience that it will soon be available to go see it .

The optical areas, the red circles, are the areas where most people look at. These areas on this poster are placed very over the main characters, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster. It tells the audience that its the main characters and that the film is based around them.

images
The images used on this poster shows the audience who the main characters of the film are. The image for the background is of the sky with part of the train showing, it also shows the elephant and part of the circus act. Having the train in the background tells the audience that its going to be an important part in the film, but because its in the background they know that its not the most important part. Having the elephant in the background and the circus act also gives the audience the same feeling.
The main image is of the 2 main characters, they are embracing each other, which tells the audience that they must be together. Being in the centre of the poster tells the audience that they are the most important part of it. Its what the audience looks at the most.
Also in the background it shows another of the characters, he is looking at the 2 others which tells the audience that he must be involved with them somehow, maybe that he's jealous of the twos relationship.

font
The font used on this poster is very elegant but its also simple. All the text at the top and bottom of the page is very easy to read and is quite basic, this is because if you are only looking at the psoter quickly then you need to be able to understand what it says straight away.
The font size at the top of the page is small compared to the film name, but the font size at the bottom of the page is even smaller, this tells the audience what the most important text is.
The font of the masthead of the film name 'Water for elephants' is in a the most elegant font on the poster, this is because its the most important part of text, so it needs to stand out to the audience, so the font is bolder and bigger.

colour
The colour used in the poster are a mixture of light and dark colours, its all darker around the outside apart form the left side, this draws the audiences attention to the centre and the left, this is where the most important information is.
The colour of the costumes worn are quite plain colours, she is wearing black and he is wearing grey, this makes them not stand out so must that the audience doesnt look anywhere else.
The colour of the text is yellow and white, the white text doesnt stand out very much, this tells the audience that its not most important part of the poster. The yellow text stands out more, the title is written in yellow, because its in yellow its bold and catches the audiences attention.

Magazine cover

layout
The yellow line is the z route of the eye, along this line on this magazine, shows has the masthead and the faces of the image at the top, it has the actors name through the middle of it and as the bottom it has some information about whats in the article. At the top it tells the audience that the magazine name is 'entertainment' but the image is shown over the top of it, this tells the audience that the image in more important then the title of the magazine. Having the faces of the image at the top of the z route, it is the first thing the audience see's, so if they like what they see its more likely for them to read the magazine. As line goes diagonally it goes through the bodies of the people in the image, this means that the audience will know that this is the actor named by the side of it, the image is also placed in the centre of the z route so its what the audience will see the most.
At the bottom of the page, the z line then runs through some information thats going to be in the magazine, its small so the audience doesnt pay much attention to it. But being at the end of the z route means its the last thing the audience sees.

The principle of thirds, the blue lines.  In the top 3 areas there is the masthead of the magazine, being in the top 3 boxes tells the audience that this must title of the magazine as its the first thing they see. Also the faces of the people are in the left and centre box, this is also what the audience will see first. As the man is in the centre, the audience will know that he is more important than the woman.
The right box of the middle 3 boxes, has some information about whats going to be featured in the magazine, because its at the side and out of the z route the audience knows its not the most important part of the magazine. The centre box shows the  body of the man and the name of him, because its the centre of all the thirds it tells the audience that the magazine is going to have a main article about them, also because its right in the centre its what the audience looks at the most. At the left side is the body of the woman, this tells the audience that she isnt as important as the man because she isnt in the z route line. In the bottom thirds is where more information about whats in the magazine is. In the left box and the centre box it has the cover line in a big bold font and colour. This immediately stands out to the audience, so they will know that its actors name and its the person on the magazine. In the right box it has the rest of the image so isnt very important.

The optical areas, the red circles. These areas on this magazine are placed very closely to the image and the cover line, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster.

images
The image used on this poster shows the audience who the main magazine article is about.
Because there is only one image then the audience will automatically look at it and will focus on the most. There are 2 people, but because the man is more central and slightly in front of the woman, the audience will know that he is the focus rather than the woman.
There are both dressed very smartly so the audience will know that its for an older target audience.

font
The font used on this magazine is very plain and simple. All the text is very easy to read and is quite basic, this is because if you are only looking at the magazine quickly then you need to be able to understand what it says straight away. Most people tend to look at the text that is big and bold, so the masthead, the cover line and the actors name are larger than the rest of the text on the page.
There is a variation in font, just to make it more interesting for the audience to read, but its still all plain and easy to read.

colour
There are lots of colours used on the magazine, red masthead makes magazine bright at the top, its the first thing the catches the audiences attention, the rest of the colours are white and black. Being quite simple colours, and not very bright  makes it more attractive to an older audience, also because the person in the image is wearing plain colours means they doesnt stand too much, this tells the audience that they are important but because the masthead is bright bold colours, then thats an important part of the magazine. The colour of the cover line stands out from the rest because
it has twilight in a big font and its in white, this stands our from the black background its on.

Film Poster For The Social Network

layout
The red line is the z route of the eye, along this line on this poster shows some text at the top, middle and bottom of it. At the top it says it just has text on a black background, this is the first thing the audience sees but its quite boring so they wont spend much time looking there. As line goes diagonally it goes through the main character and some more text, this means that the audience will know that this is the main character, not only because he is the only character on the poster but because the middle of the z route is on him.
At the bottom of the page, the z line then runs through more text, all the text tells the audience a little bit about the film. This is also the last thing the audience sees so the plot of the film will be fresh in their mind.

The principle of thirds, the yellow lines. In the top 3 areas there isnt much information, it just says 'you dont get to'. Because there isnt much information in these boxes the audience knows its not very important, so they move on quickly.
The outsides of the middle 3 boxes, dont have much information in them either, just more text, but the centre box shows the main character. Because its the centre of all the thirds it tells the audience that the film is going to be based around this character. In the bottom thirds is where there is more text and the rest of the character is shown. There isnt much to look at so the audience wont spend much time looking at this poster.

The optical areas, the blue circles. These areas on this poster are placed very closely to the main character and the text, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster. It tells the audience that its the main character and that the film is based around him.

images
The images used on this poster shows the audience who the main character of the film is, it shows just his face covering the whole poster. The image for the background is the just a plan black background.
The main image is of mark, its just showing his face and a bit of his shoulders, the audience can see a bit of his clothing showing them that he dresses like an everyday teenager as he is wearing a plain grey top and a hoodie.

font
The font used on this poster is very plain and simple. The text is the same font for most of the writing on the page, it changes to italics inbetween the bigger writing, then its small with the italics.
The font of the film name 'the social network' is in a different font to the rest of the poster, this is because its the title, different to most posters the title is very small and hard to see. The audience then know that the text on the poster is more important than the title of the film.

colour
The colour used in the poster are all dark colours, its all black, greys and white, the only bit of bright colour is the blue down the side of the poster which has the title of the film in it. Having it more dark around the outside makes the audience want to look towards the middle of the poster where the face is, this tells the audience that this is the most important part.
The colour of the text is white this stands out from the black background and makes it very easy for the audience to read.

The green line is the z route of the eye, along this line on this magazine, shows has the masthead and the faces of the image at the top, it has the actors name through the middle of it and as the bottom it has some information about whats in the article. As line goes diagonally it goes through the bodies of the people in the image, this means that the audience will know that this is who the cover line will be about, the image is also placed in the centre of the z route so its what the audience will see the most.
At the bottom of the page, the z line then runs through some information thats going to be in the magazine, its small so the audience doesnt pay much attention to it. But being at the end of the z route means its the last thing the audience sees.

The principle of thirds, the red lines.  In the top 3 areas there is the masthead of the magazine, being in the top 3 boxes tells the audience that this must title of the magazine as its the first thing they see. Also the faces of the people are in all of the top boxes, this is also what the audience will see first. As one of the men is in the centre, the audience will know that he is more important than the others.
The right box of the middle 3 boxes, has one of the bodies of the actors, the centre box shows the body of another man and it also has 'the facebook movie' written in it, this tells the audience that the magaizine is going to feature an article about it. Because its right in the centre its what the audience looks at the most. At the left side is the body of the remaining man, this tells the audience that the 2 on the sides arent  as important as the man in the middle because they arent in the z route line. In the bottom thirds is where more information about whats in the magazine is. In the all the boxes at the bottom it has the cover line in a big bold font and colour. This immediately stands out to the audience, so they will know that its what the magazine focuses on the most.

The optical areas, the blue circles. These areas on this magazine are placed very closely to the image and the cover line, this tells the audience that this is the most important information on the poster.

images
The image used on this poster shows the audience who the main magazine article is about.
Because there is only one image then the audience will automatically look at it and will focus on the most. There are 3 people, but because one of the men is more central and slightly in front of the others, the audience will know that he is the focus rather than them.
There are all dressed very smartly so the audience will know that its for an older target audience.

font
The font used on this magazine is very plain and simple. All the text is very easy to read and is quite basic, this is because if you are only looking at the magazine quickly then you need to be able to understand what it says straight away. Most people tend to look at the text that is big and bold, so the masthead and the cover line are larger than the rest of the text on the page.
There is a variation in font, just to make it more interesting for the audience to read, but its still all plain and easy to read.

colour
There are lots of colours used on the magazine, Blue masthead at the top makes the magazine bright at the top, its the first thing the catches the audiences attention, the rest of the colours are white and black with a little bit of yellow. Being quite simple colours, and not very bright  makes it more attractive to an older audience,  the people in the image are wearing slightly brighter colours so the audience will automatically look at them first, this tells the audience that they are important but because the masthead is bright bold colours, then thats an important part of the magazine. The colour of the cover line stands out from the rest because it has 'sexiest geeks alive' in a big white font which stands out from the background, also there is a little bit of yellow underneath the cover line, so the audience glance at it as it stands out.
